The hashtag “Kumerica” has been making waves on social media for sometime now. Natives of the Ashanti region of Ghana have been claiming authority over the other fifteen (15) Regions of Ghana.
This trend is a comparison of some sort to the supremacy of the United States of America (USA). The Ashanti’s have adopted the name and made it theirs which is “United States of Asante”.
Some social media fanatics have joined in this trend especially those who hail from the region. They have rallied solidly behind the movement which has gained it so much attention among the Ghanaian populace.
Originators of the movement have even gone to the extent of making a Kumerican flag that represents natives of the Asante Kingdom.
To support their argument, they have likened certain towns in the Ashanti region to some states in the (USA).
The trend does not only seek to push the name Kumerica, but also seeks to portray artistes from the region as musically inclined and the best in Ghana by comparing them to some world known American artistes.
Monuments such as the statue of Liberty has been equated to the Okomfo Anokye statue.
However, a section of the public who hail from Accra have also made their version and labeled themselves as Accraricans.
They began with the battle of which region really deserves the title, but as compared to the Kumericans, the Accrarican agenda has not gained much grounds because some people on social media have described it as an act of copying the Kumericans.
Accra natives are yet to catch up with their fellow Kumericans as they are far gone with the agenda.
